Publication Ethics
PUBLICATION ETHICS
Buletin Sumber Daya Geologi is an official scientific publication that publishes articles based on investigations related to mineral commodities, fossil energy, and geothermal resources. The scope includes exploration methods, specific aspect studies, and assessments of resources and reserves that have not been previously published. All published articles have undergone a peer-review process and editorial revision by the editorial team. This bulletin adheres to the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) in handling all aspects of publication ethics, particularly in addressing cases of research misconduct and publication errors.
This statement of scientific code of ethics applies to all parties involved in the publication process of Buletin Sumber Daya Geologi, including the publisher, editors, reviewers, and authors. It is based on the Regulation of the Head of LIPI No. 5 of 2014 concerning the Code of Ethics for Scientific Publications. The publication ethics uphold three core values:
- Neutrality, i.e., free from conflicts of interest in managing publications;
- Fairness, i.e., giving authorship rights to those entitled to be recognized as authors; and
- Integrity, i.e., being free from duplication, fabrication, falsification, and plagiarism (DF2P) in publication.
To prevent plagiarism, every submitted manuscript will be further screened using a plagiarism detection tool, namely Turnitin.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Publisher
- Determine the name of the bulletin, its scientific scope, publication frequency, and accreditation applications if necessary; establish editorial board membership.
- Define the relationships between the publisher, editors, reviewers, and other relevant parties in a formal contract.
- Respect confidentiality for all involved parties, including contributors, authors, editors, and reviewers.
- Enforce norms and regulations concerning intellectual property rights, particularly copyright.
- Review the bulletin’s policies and communicate them to authors, editorial board members, reviewers, and readers.
- Develop ethical guidelines and codes of conduct for editors and reviewers.
- Ensure the regular publication of the bulletin.
- Guarantee the availability of financial resources for the sustainability of the bulletin.
- Establish collaborations with research institutions and relevant agencies.
- Manage licensing and other legal aspects.
Duties and Responsibilities of Reviewers
- Review manuscripts and provide assessments to the editor as the basis for determining the suitability of a manuscript for publication.
- Refrain from reviewing manuscripts in which they have a direct or indirect conflict of interest.
- Provide constructive suggestions, input, and recommendations regarding the scientific manuscript.
- Maintain author confidentiality by not disclosing any corrections, suggestions, or recommendations to unauthorized parties.
- Encourage authors to improve their manuscripts.
- Re-review revised manuscripts in accordance with predetermined standards.
- Complete the review process in a timely manner, in accordance with the publication’s style guide and based on scientific principles (data collection methods, author legitimacy, conclusions, etc.).
Duties and Responsibilities of Authors
- Ensure that all listed authors meet the criteria for authorship.
- Take collective responsibility for the work and content of the article, including methods, analysis, calculations, and details.
- Declare the source of resources (including funding), whether directly or indirectly.
- Disclose any limitations in the research.
- Respond to comments made by reviewers and the editorial board in a professional, scientific, and timely manner.
- Notify the editor in writing if they wish to withdraw their manuscript.
- Declare that the submitted manuscript is original, has not been published elsewhere in any language, and is not under consideration by another publisher.
